Al-Farabi University Organizes a Seminar on “Electronic Extortion” in Collaboration with Health Authorities and Community Police

As part of its awareness campaigns to protect the university community, the Women’s Affairs Division at Al-Farabi University, in collaboration with the College of Law and the Baghdad Health Directorate (Dora Sector for Primary Healthcare), organized an educational seminar titled: “Electronic Extortion: Risks and Prevention.”

Seminar Details and Attendance: The seminar featured a prominent presence of a Community Police representative, alongside a group of professors and specialists, to highlight this phenomenon from multiple perspectives.

Key Seminar Pillars:

  • Legal Perspective: Reviewing legal statutes that penalize cybercriminals and the proper legal procedures for dealing with threats.
  • Security Perspective: The Community Police representative provided practical guidance on securing personal accounts and the mechanisms for confidential and safe reporting.
  • Psychological and Health Perspective: Health Directorate specialists discussed the psychological and social impacts of extortion and how to provide support to victims.
  • Community Awareness: Emphasizing the role of educational institutions in fortifying students against the misuse of social media platforms.

The seminar concluded with an open discussion with students, where speakers stressed the importance of breaking the silence and reaching out to the competent official authorities when encountering any extortion attempts.
