Al-Farabi University (College of Administration and Economics – Department of Accounting and Banking Sciences) organized a prominent scientific symposium titled “National Initiative Policies to Support Energy, Reduce Emissions, and the Role of Environmental Law.” The event took place on Saturday, November 29, 2025, in cooperation with the Prime Minister’s Office / National Security Advisory (Al-Nahrain Center for Strategic Studies) and the Ministry of Electricity.
The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Hanaa Abdel Ghaffar, Scientific Associate Dean. The symposium featured distinguished guest speakers: Mr. Jawad Al-Khaikani, Head of the Energy, Water, and Environment Department at Al-Nahrain Center, and Mr. Fares Khaled, Member of the National Initiative and ISO member, representing the Ministry of Electricity.
The event witnessed a significant turnout, including Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, university staff, and a large gathering of students.
Key Topics Discussed: The symposium addressed critical strategic issues, including:
- The national strategy for renewable energy and emission reduction policies.
- The significance of the environmental legal framework in achieving sustainable development.
- Addressing the challenges of climate change and water security threats in Iraq.
This activity comes in implementation of the National Initiative’s recommendations to spread environmental awareness and educate on current challenges. It also reflects Al-Farabi University’s commitment to supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strengthening partnerships between academic institutions and government sectors.
