Al-Farabi University won first and second place in the Iraqi Universities Chess Championship for male and female students, as well as individuals with special needs. The championship was hosted by the University of Technology and sponsored by the Student Activities Department of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
A total of 58 public and private universities and colleges participated in the tournament, which took place in the indoor sports halls of the University of Technology.
The women’s team consisted of:

- Rania Ibrahim Hussein, Department of Pharmacy
- Ward Sadiq Murad, Department of Pharmacy
The men’s team included:
- Abdullah Hamid, Department of Pharmacy
- Sadiq Mohi Khalil, Department of Optics Techniques
- Amir Hayam Ahmed, Department of Pharmacy
- Hassan Adel Hassan, Department of Dentistry
- Mohammed Mohsen, Department of Optics Techniques
- Haider Mohammed Abdul-Razzaq, Department of Petroleum Engineering
The tournament was judged by a professional international team from the Iraqi Chess Federation.
This activity is part of the annual program set by the Student Activities Unit, through which the university seeks to identify and nurture student talents.
